About The Director

CHEN Yipei

Born in Beijing, China, Chen Yipei is a London-based artist working primarily in sculpture and video. She earned her BA in Digital Media Art from the Communication University of China in 2024 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Director's Statement

Yipei Chen’s work explores the inherent instability of artificially synthesized, human-serving everyday objects, generating novel metaphorical systems through materials that oscillate between imitation and camouflage. By doing so, she encourages the audience to imagine aspects of her work that cannot be fully captured or reduced to symbols or language. Yipei employs nonlinear and anti-presentational approaches, treating embodied cognition as a malleable material. She "scavenges" and "samples" objects from her daily life, bring herself and the audience a cognitive tension directed towards randomness and personal narratives.
